Overview
Are you an experienced lawyer with expertise in privacy or administrative law? WorkSafeBC's Law & Policy division is seeking a lawyer who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy department and the establishment, maintenance and ongoing assessment of our privacy management program.
As Manager, Access to Information and Privacy, you'll ensure WorkSafeBC's compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the effective delivery of quality, customer-focused services to our clients.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you'll work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do
As Manager, Access to Information and Privacy, you will:
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to our Board of Directors, President, executive, managers and all staff regarding WorkSafeBC's duties under FIPPA, and on access and privacy law in general
- Manage assigned staff to effectively plan and deliver services to facilitate WorkSafeBC's compliance with FIPPA
- Develop and implement FIPPA compliance policies, privacy breach protocols, and corporate-wide training programs
- Perform risk assessments with regard to WorkSafeBC's compliance with FIPPA and its privacy management program, including legal analysis to conduct complex privacy impact assessments in compliance with FIPPA
- Act as a contact and liaison with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and conduct mediations and hearings before the OIPC
- Work with the Information Technology department and, in particular, IT Security and Risk Management, to ensure that data collection, protection, storage, and disclosure complies with FIPPA

- Interact in a confident, professional and objective manner, influence others to comply with policies and procedures, and maintain collaborative relationships with management, peers, and clients
Your background and experience
- A law degree in privacy law or an administrative field
- A member of good standing with the Law Society of BC
- A minimum of five years of recent experience in a privacy or access to information-related role
- Management experience is an asset
