Job Description:

The Group Risk Specialist will report into the Senior Manager, Risk Assessment & Reporting (RA&R), and will represent the second line of defence, 2A role.

This role will conduct independent oversight, challenge, review and assessment of major financial risks including: credit, market, liquidity and capital adequacy risks as they pertain to TDI. The candidate will act as a subject matter expert in providing guidance and oversight on financial risk related matters, support ongoing risk management activities and partner with key stakeholders to strengthen TDI's control environment.

Accountabilities include the following:
  • Enhance and maintain risk oversight processes to identify, assess gaps/opportunities and recommend enhancements to proactively manage current and emerging financial risks.
  • Monitor risk appetite indicators to ensure that risk appetite results are aligned with the Bank's strategic plan and embedded in day-to-day operations.
  • Leverage programs, frameworks or other risk sources that help identify and assess financial risks, including but not limited to risk appetite, top and emerging risk, KI, risk events, policy attestations, audit findings, industry events.
  • Build strong relationships and provide proactive thought leadership, advice and communications to stakeholders ensuring that risk issues are identified, understood and managed effectively.
  • Participate in review and challenge of policies for design and operating effectiveness resulting from regulatory changes, monitoring and metrics, management request or other triggering events.
  • Be a value-add risk oversight partner and work closely with other risk and control groups while actively engaged in independent challenge and review assessments ensuring appropriate documented challenge.
  • Special ad hoc initiatives that may be driven by industry external risk events, required by regulators or senior leadership team.

Job Requirements
  • University degree or certificate in related business field, Risk Management, Insurance, oversight area etc. or compensating work experience. Knowledge of and experience in overseeing financial risks and Insurance business an asset.
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills and can synthesize or analyze related financial and non-financial data to provide a holistic view of risk following in-depth analysis; elevate the results for executive's consumption.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to connect the dots and proactively identify risks/issues and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to take full ownership of assigned responsibilities, including attention to details, managing and meeting various deadlines, anticipating senior management's questions and presenting recommendations to audience with different background.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to consider how work underway impacts other areas/projects.
  • Critical thinking skill and curiosity to engage with our business partners and understand work from across the business.
  • Ability to work in ambiguity, must be flexible to deal with changes in a fast paced and new environment, working closely with peers where subject matter expertise is required.
  • Willingness to learn and challenge status-quo.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
