Job Description

Payroll Specialist Contract, around 6 months, full-time hours. Hybrid in Greater Vancouver or Remote anywhere in Canada. Global Public Company. Excellent opportunity for a technically strong payroll professional who enjoys the variety, challenges, and flexibility of a contract role. Processing multiple small but complex payrolls in 3 countries, almost all salaried employees. Canadian and US payroll processing experience is required. Benefits administration experience is preferred, not required.

Who- the Company:
Our client is a significant global public company headquartered in Vancouver. They have a reputation in Vancouver and beyond for hiring top talent, and for providing their employees with interesting and challenging work in an upbeat, collaborative, and professional environment. Swim Recruiting has been engaged to aid with this important search and has placed many people with this company in the past with positive feedback.

What- the Opportunity:
On behalf of our client, Swim Recruiting is seeking a Payroll Specialist for a 4 to 6 month contract, with full-time hours. This contract is open due to an upcoming leave of the current Payroll & Benefits Specialist. The length of the contract will be determined by a few factors such as start date, when the employee’s leave officially starts, and what works best for the hired temporary employee. The aim is for there to be around 4 weeks of overlap and training with the full time employee at the start of the contract, and then another 2-4 weeks of overlap at the end of the contract.

The new Payroll Specialist will process 5 payrolls (4 twice a month, 1 monthly, for a total of 9 payroll periods a month). These payrolls only total ~110 employees, but it is complex as it’s for 3 countries- Canada (salaried employees, mostly based in BC), US (approximately 20 salaried employees), and one other country in the Americas (mix of salaried and hourly employees).  The company employs other Payroll Specialists based in other countries, and this Payroll Specialist is accountable and responsible for the payroll in the Americas region.

The Payroll Specialist will be using ADP Workforce Now and one other system. The company is busy with merit/bonus pay-outs in the early spring and equity pay-outs in the early summer. The Payroll Specialist will support salary changes, equity changes, merit calculations, etc. Ideally the Payroll Specialist will also take care of benefits administration for these employees (extended health, pension, etc.)

Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for an organized, independent, detail-oriented, and friendly Payroll professional with 4+ years of relevant payroll processing experience. Experience processing a BC salaried payroll is required, and experience processing a US payroll is highly preferred/almost required. The team can train the contract Payroll Specialist on payroll for the other country in the Americas. Ideally the successful contractor for this role will also have benefits administration experience, although this is not required if someone is very strong in payroll only.  Experience using ADP Workforce Now is a significant asset.

The technical payroll skills are of course very important in this role, but so are the soft skills! This organization has a friendly, collaborative, tight-knit, and fun-loving team. We are looking for a Payroll Specialist who enjoys providing excellent internal customer service to employees and who can answer questions, improve payroll processes, and solve problems.

Where:
HYBRID OR REMOTE. This company’s International headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. They have a beautiful corporate office with a great view! Ideally we are seeking a Payroll Specialist who lives in Greater Vancouver and who can work from the corporate office 1 or 2 days a week. That said, given this is a contract, our client is also open to hiring a temporary employee who lives elsewhere in BC or even elsewhere in Canada (as long as the Payroll Specialist has solid BC payroll experience and can align with PST working hours).

How Much:
Competitive hourly consulting rate commensurate with payroll experience, skills, and qualifications- likely in the range of $35 to $52 an hour, with some wiggle room beyond that if the contractor is incorporated. Please discuss your hourly rate expectations in more detail with SWIM.

When & How to Apply:
If you are qualified for, and interested in, this payroll consulting opportunity with a high-profile Vancouver corporation, please let Swim Recruiting know as soon as possible as this search is moving quickly! If you already have a Recruiter at SWIM, please reach out directly.  If you do not yet have a contact at Swim Recruiting, please hit 'APPLY NOW' to send us your resume (Please note that a resume in MS Word format is preferred as it works better with our internal systems, but PDF is also fine). Thank you!
