POSITION TYPE: Faculty - 100%, Non-Regular Type 2 (NR2)
POSITION START: September 1st, 2025

The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one Non-Regular Type 2 full-time faculty to teach in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. The appointment is for the period September 1st, 2025, to August 31th, 2026. NR2 faculty engage in teaching, student support, service to the school and program, and professional development activities. NR2 faculty are entitled to paid vacation leave, professional development leave and benefits.

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a full-time cohort program that prepares nursing students to work with individuals, families and communities with varying health and health promotion needs across diverse settings. The BSN program utilizes a concept-based pedagogical approach that is based on the concepts of caring and health promotion and has been developed in consultation with nursing practitioners, theorists, professional associations, and various government ministries.

Pedagogy and teaching methodologies encourage the development of critical thinking and the discovery of personal meaning. There is an emphasis on practice experiences as the foundation of nursing and the recognition that nurses' work requires thoughtful, reflective action.
Program courses and labs prepare nursing students to practice with clients in a wide variety of institutional and community settings. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and to write the Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination (NGN-NCLEX) to become a practicing Registered Nurse.

Regular faculty engage in teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities. They are entitled to paid vacation leave, professional development leave and benefits.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Faculty in the BSN Nursing Program are supported to teach in all areas of the program. The position includes teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities.

Faculty members are accountable for 10 months of the year. The 10 months accountable time includes such activities as teaching, the counselling of students, curriculum/program development, professional development and participation on a variety of educational committees.

Teaching duties include:
  • Participate in the development and revision of course outlines and curriculum
  • The preparation of courses, including but not limited to course syllabi, online delivery platforms, and other course related activities
  • Responsibility for the delivery of courses, including lectures, seminars, laboratories, clinical supervision, simulations, field trips, and in-person, online or hybrid course delivery
  • Student assessment, testing, and placement
  • Student consultations, including office hours (1 hour per week per 3 credit course or equivalent)
  • Work integrated learning placements - Ensure alignment of work integrated learning experiences with the learning outcomes of the concurrent theory and lab courses.
  • Submission of grades in accordance with policy

Service may include:
  • Participation in program, department, faculty, and university committees and events.
  • Participation in program quality assurance activities including program review and accreditation
  • Participation in regional, national and international committees and other professional organizations

Fall 2025
NRSG 4145 - Nursing Practice 5 - 75%
Course Description: Students will engage with clients who are experiencing unpredictable and more complex health situations. Practice experience includes guided client care in a variety of health settings. Students will continue to develop clinical decision-making abilities with minimal guidance. They will expand their capacity as a health team member in a variety of contexts. Opportunities for seeking and using new knowledge that may enhance, support, or influence competence in practice will be maximized.

HEAL 2150 - Health Lab - 25%
Course Description: Students will build upon previous lab skills performance. They will practice skills in the lab and simulated setting to prepare them to care for clients in a variety of settings. Students will also learn to manage client scenarios and perform select psychomotor skills with increased complexity using assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care.

Spring 2026
NRSG 4145 - Nursing Practice 5 - 75%

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant should have experience working in complex care. The required academic credentials to teach in the BSN are specific to the program and are as follows:
  • Master's Degree; with at least one degree as a bachelor's degree in nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing. Doctorate preferred.
  • Eligible for practicing membership with BCCNM with no limits, no conditions, no terms.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Three years preferred, related work experience.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.

This competition is for a maximum FTE of 100% NR2. When possible, priority will be given to the candidate(s) who can maximize the FTE either individually, or collectively, as such please indicate on your application your preferred workload percentage.
